Gemstone information & reports
Good gemstone selection begins with information about the individual stone. A general description of emeralds cannot establish the identity, treatment, geographic origin or value of a particular gem.
Read the individual listing
Confirm the SKU, number of pieces, shape, dimensions and carat weight. For pairs and layouts, check whether the stated weight is for the entire group. Images may be enlarged; judge physical size from measurements rather than the photograph.
Treatments and disclosure
Emeralds may have surface-reaching fractures filled with substances such as oils or resins. Treatments can affect care requirements and appearance. Check the specific product description and report for the information applicable to your stone, and contact us if it is missing or unclear. An absent treatment statement is not evidence that a stone is untreated.
Laboratory reports and origin
A laboratory report records the issuing laboratory's examination and conclusions. It is not an appraisal, a guarantee of resale value, or a guarantee of future condition. Geographic-origin opinions depend on the evidence available to the laboratory. A photograph or country-style description alone does not establish geographic origin. Confirm which report, if any, is available for the stone under consideration.
Color, images and value
Lighting, camera settings and displays can change the apparent color of a stone. Ask for additional views when useful. For an insurance valuation, consult an appropriate independent appraiser.
